Transform 07: Burkina Faso
1-28 July 2007
The team of 6 flew into Ouagadougou for orientation, Jula language learning and getting to know local staff. On 10 July they took a bus to Banfora. Three men involved in ANTBA's church literacy program joined the team for language survey in parts of Banfora. With team leader Alison's survey experience plus the enthusiasm of all concerned, they had a great time!
The team then travelled north to Toussiana where they used puppets made of local materials for Scripture use presentations in Toussian villages.
The team is now back in the UK. Here's a few quotes and photos from their time in Burkina Faso...
Some quotes from early on in the trip:
"Here in Ouaga, sweating away even under the fans. It’s dusty and red and I’m enjoying mangoes and geckos and crickets!" Alison
"Really enjoying being here in Burkina, especially going to the tailors to have dresses fitted and hearing people’s testimonies." Zöe
"and hello from my good friend Crumbold the gecko. He waits at my door every evening and then sleeps behind the photo frame. Burkina is wonderful and I am loving finding out more about Bible translation and SIL’s work." Sara
"Looking forward to the language survey, if not the bus ride there!"
Georgie
"We are all having such a wonderful time here – shared testimonies from the missionaries, learning Jula and working as a team." Hyunra
"Really enjoying being back here in Burkina, we've been hearing the testimonies of the other missionaries here at SIL, and it is so great to hear how God is always at work, and is working through so many people from across the world."
Claire
And from towards the end:
"A few of the highlights… hearing the testimonies of Christians at SIL in Ouagadougou and getting a real insight into Wycliffe’s work, seeing the development of language during survey, getting the fantastic opportunity to do Scripture Use with young Burkinabés using puppets, buying bread through the bus window, watching women carrying massive tables on their heads, being guests of honour at a Burkinabé wedding…
"While our experiences have been really weird and wonderful, I don’t think we would have been so prepared if it wasn’t for our orientation with Wycliffe and Tearfund which we worked through regarding culture shock and Marilyn’s great briefing when we arrived in Ouaga. We have all been challenged in so many different ways, indeed ‘transformed'"
