Great place for a conference!

Wycliffe Centre

HP14 3XL

Dear Sarah,

A Rocha Leaders’ Forum 10-16 July 2005

Many thanks for another very enjoyable conference. We really appreciated all your help, both in the planning and after arrival.

This year we invited 60 leaders of A Rocha from over 20 countries, so Wycliffe’s proximity to both Heathrow and Stansted airports simplified travel arrangements and saved time and money. It also meant that many of us could also visit our UK Centre and the local project—the Minet Country Park at Southall. An added bonus was that we could treat many of the overseas delegates to an afternoon in Oxford, a real highlight for them.

We had a pretty full programme, but even so, the naturalists among us managed to make the most of being in the Chiltern Hills, and enjoyed the footpaths that lead from the Wycliffe Centre through the surrounding woods and fields. The wonderful little meadow with marbled white butterflies and orchids was well-visited, while others have gone home with happy memories of the red kites which were almost constantly overhead and the green woodpeckers which frequent your lawns. You’re also far enough from London for the group to enjoy the sky at night, and the hawk moths that rest by your outside lights!

You probably noticed that we held almost all our small group discussions out of doors, either enjoying the sunshine or the shade of the trees. The glorious weather contributed a lot to the happy atmosphere of the conference this year.

Finally, please thank the chef and his friendly team for all the excellent meals and their willingness to meet the needs of our vegetarians and others with special diets. The mixture of hot meals and the salad bar meant that everyone, wherever they came from, enjoyed the food. We also appreciated his kindness in providing the occasional snack for those who arrived at odd times, after long journeys.

I hope we’ll be back again!

Yours sincerely

Barbara C. Mearns
