Empowering Nigerians

Wycliffe’s vision is that by 2025 Bible translation will be in progress in every language where it is needed. In Nigeria, that could mean up to 200 languages. Where are the resources to take this enormous first step, and then finish the job?

The answer lies in the large and growing number of Nigerian Christians. According to Operation World, there are 60 million Christians in Nigeria. If Nigerian Christians have the vision and the training, and if churches work together, they could achieve this ‘impossible’ goal.

The former Director of training in the UK, David Crozier, is now training Nigerians at the Theological College of Northern Nigeria (TCNN). For 45 years, TCNN has trained church leaders from more than 13 denominations, including Anglicans, Lutherans, Presbyterians, United Methodists and Mambila Baptists, serving around 300 students at any one time. TCNN is expanding their curriculum so that Nigerians can be trained to translate the Scriptures. The first students taking the 3-year BA course include Ngas, Kamwes and Ywoms. Next year, there will be a new BA intake and the first 4-year MA students.
