We have seen Jesus!
Billions of people around the world cannot or would not read the Bible, but for millions of them seeing is believing —through the Jesus Film (www.jesusfilm.org)
Later this year, one more community will have the
marvellous opportunity of hearing and seeing Jesus
speaking to them in their language. Pam Blakely describes the final stages of translating and recording the Jesus Film in the Philippines.
“It was the highlight of the year! When we got to Manila we discovered that the technicians also expected to record an audio version, so additional material we hadn’t seen yet had to be translated at the same time! That would take a miracle, but we agreed to have a go. We sent daily prayer requests to our prayer partners—and GOD DID IT!
The only way to describe it is that the Lord sat beside us, giving us the words—and the energy to keep going 19 hours a day for 11 days!
"God also worked in the hearts of the mother tongue speakers who came to work with us. One of them put her trust in the Lord on the boat, after speaking to the one believer in the group. Later, two others took the same step. One of them heard a knock on her bedroom door at 4.30 a.m. When she opened it there was no one there! She took this to be Jesus seeking her, so she decided to follow. She has a great burden for the young people in her village, who are stumbling around with no purpose.”
The Jesus Film in other languages has been shown in parts of the Philippines. People have paid to see it; religious leaders have asked to see it; college students had to answer exam questions about it. After a showing in one village, the leaders decided the whole community would follow Jesus, and asked for someone to come and teach them!
Wonderful things are happening all over the world as we work closely with the Jesus Film organisation.
Despite the unrest in Colombia, 4,000 Wayuu people saw the film, 100 decided to follow Jesus, 70 joined discipleship classes and 50 were baptised!
In Nigeria, 27 young volunteers worked for four months following up people who watched it in Izere. Altogether 8,000 believed!
In a Bimoba village in Ghana, 300 people watched the film and 200 of them believed, including the chief.
What will God through this version?!
