Engage teams
(formerly Transform teams)
Summer teams to Africa and Asia
4 weeks
Engage teams will go overseas for 4 weeks in the summer of 2009, to see first-hand the work going on in a Bible translation project.
The teams will engage with the local community, and where possible assist the people through helping with the translation project or other church work.
Teams in 2009 will go to locations in Africa and hopefully Asia, although the exact destinations are still to be decided. If you're interested in being part of one of the teams, take a look at the information sheet, and contact us to let us know of your interest.

Read about the Mali Team experiences...
"God is so good to us, we've been really well looked after, and the presence of God is awesome."
"I'm fully sold out for Wycliffe!!"
"I really enjoyed the whole experience of being with a team."
"I've learned a lot about what is really important to me - what I need versus what I want. And who I really am when I'm thrown into another culture."
"35-40 degrees heat. Cosy! At night it doesn't get any cooler, so we sleep with no sheets, just mossie nets and the fans blasting. It gets cooler when it rains so WE LOVE IT!"
"The local children mob us as we walk along the street and don't respond to Bambara or French, just say "white person, white person" and hold your hand. Lots of very friendly people."
"I feel much better equipped to talk about and pray for the work of Bible translation, also the problems faced when trying to reach certain people groups."
"Really exciting seeing translation work in progress! We're all growing in our faith & learning lots about God."
"Every project is different - and the actual Bible translation task is not what I expected. It's more organic and more of a preocess than a task."
"Bible translation covers a multitude of activities! It's a long process, but worth every hardship. I've met some of the most joyful, sacrificial, obedient, Christ-like people. The work of this organisation makes my heart burn and weep."
Comment from the team's Wycliffe hosts ...
"We go through long periods with no visitors passing through here: it used to be years on end. But the town where we work was recently “transformed” by the Wycliffe UK Transform Team.
"We are grateful for all of their hard work and all that they
accomplished: running computer and English classes for the church youth
(about 20 people under age 40 attending every class) and other classes for
the pastors (4 sessions each), teaching a Bible Club with our kids eight
mornings (complete with puppet shows), teaching a French Club eight
afternoons with our kids, three neighbors and two missionary preschoolers,
visiting a village, visiting and eating with African families, selling books
in the market at least six mornings, cooking lots of meals and washing lots
of dishes, participating in an afternoon cross-cultural exchange with all of
the church youth being invited, watching translation, shopping in the
market, making a ministry video for us, working on indexing a
French audio commentary on Matthew, and many other projects from planing
doors to organizing a toy cabinet.
"We are grateful for all of their hard work and braving the heat!"
