Yaru
Fifteen Languages across Eighty Islands
The Yaru project comprises 60,000 people from fifteen different language groups spread across an Asian archipelago of eighty islands.
Bible translation projects for three individual language groups are already underway. However, the majority of Yaru also speak the local trade language, Yaruese Creole, which has many features similar to their local languages.
The Yaru project team has identified the opportunity of using a Bible translation in this trade language as the source text for the remaining language translations. This will allow far less scope for linguistic or cultural misunderstanding by local translators.
Total needed: £73,000
