One to One Stories
Here are just a few stories from people who have been involved in the One-to-One programme over recent years...
Teaching in Cameroon - Kat's story
"Having finished this placement I have come to learn what an integral part teachers play in the grand scheme of giving God’s word to His people in a language which speaks to them personally. In Cameroon alone I can’t count the number of families with young children who take part in this amazing task, and if their days are filled by home schooling their children as well as keeping house, numerous meetings and other day to day challenges then life becomes very difficult for them. "

Illustrating in Ethiopia - Stephen's story
"Drawing for nine months was a bit daunting, and there were a few points where I naturally got fed up, but all in all it has been the most satisfying, fulfilling year of my life.
"I love the fact that when we are weak, we are at our strongest because that’s the point at which God fills us up most with his strength. And it is only through that strength that I have been able to do what I’ve done this year.
"The more I live my life, the more I realize that it has nothing to do with me, but only everything to do with the one who created me."

Helping out in Cameroon - David and Denise's story
"Our initial job descriptions lent themselves to flexibility...! David spent his time with the Cameroonian school electrician, carrying ladders and tools, or providing (lifesaving!) input on electrical items (e.g. microwaves) which were new to the electrician. He also helped out in the library, cleaning videos and transferring videos to DVDs – jobs the regular staff never found time for. I did some one to one teaching, some screening of people for dyslexia, and some teacher training.
"All the teachers and students were very welcoming, and I was humbled by some of the people who were courageous enough to ask for my input."

IT in Mali - Aaron's story
"Personally, I learnt so much during my time in Mali and it was such a privilege to have that experience. It was amazing to be able to get to know some of the people and to even make friendships. It is fantastic to see the world from someone else’s point of view and realise that you haven’t got it quite right yourself!"
