Words for Life - The Wycliffe Magazine
Mary responded, “Oh, how my soul praises the Lord. How my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour! For he took notice of his lowly servant girl, and from now on all generations will call me blessed.” – Luke 1:46-48
This summer will be full of celebration. In June we mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, recognising her 60-year reign over the United Kingdom and sixteen other states. Then, through July and August, London plays host to representatives of over 200 nations competing during the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. In both, we have the opportunity to celebrate historic events that we may never again witness in our lifetimes.
Yet, while these events may be globally prominent, there are other celebrations taking place this year of more eternal significance.
Back in January, the Cameroonian Association of Bible Translation and Literacy celebrated their 25th anniversary. It was an opportunity to recognise God’s grace to that organisation and the ongoing work of Bible translation throughout Cameroon. And, in March, speakers of the Kouya language gathered together to celebrate the translation of the New Testament and the production of audio Scriptures. The project was completed several years ago, but they were unable to celebrate it then because of the instability in the region.
These events are important, not just because they mark milestones, but because they are demonstrations of the impact of translated Scripture on the eternal lives of so many people. That’s a celebration we should all join in!
