How do I learn more about working cross-culturally in the UK?
The European Training Programme (ETP) is based near High Wycombe, providing training for those working cross-culturally in language based development
throughout the world. They offer certain courses which are as relevant to those working cross-culturally within the UK as those who will go to live overseas. You may like to consider the Equip2Serve course, or the Language and Culture Acquisition course for example.
How can I learn more about God's Word bringing healing for refugees who have experienced traumatic experiences in their homeland?
Wycliffe colleagues who specialise in helping communities use and apply God's word in the mother tongue found that those suffering trauma such as war, natural disaster or displacement needed particular help in dealing with their experiences. Trauma Healing Workshops are now run in many countries, and God's Word works powerfully. There are moving testimonies of the traumatised being transformed as they engage with God's Word in the mother tongue. This issue is not confined to the countries overseas where Wycliffe is working in Bible translation and literacy - so training workshops now run in the UK. The next course in the UK is 9-13 May 2011 (more information). This training is particularly for those seeking to work with refugees or immigrant populations in the West, or for churches planning short term trips to areas affected by war or conflict. Church pastoral care workers or chaplains may also find it helpful. It will be based on the book “Healing the Wounds of Trauma, how the Church can help.”
