Partners in Bible translation

JAARS Inc. is a partner organisation of Wycliffe Bible Translators, a nonprofit organisation committed to accelerating Bible translation for all people. They provide technical support services and resources to SIL International, Wycliffe Global Alliance, and other related organisations in the global Bible translation movement.

They have put together some exceptional videos (the full list can be found on their website at www.jaars.org/multimedia/videos). We have included these following three as our top picks.

It’s in Your Power

1:00 JAARS-Its-in-Your-Power-HD.m4v (19,453kb) - Millions are still without God's word in their own language - but it's in your power to help.

Feast or Crumbs

1:14 JAARS-Feast-or-Crumbs.wmv (11,515kb) - George Cowan, President Emeritus of Wycliffe USA, passionately explains why Bible translation is crucial for every remaining language group.

A Common Vision

2:42 JAARS-A-Common-Vision.wmv (6,126kb) - JAARS - like the translators we support - is guided by one overarching vision: to be a catalyst for changing lives through God's word.

The Seed Company

The Seed Company was launched by Wycliffe Bible Translators in 1993 with a mandate to accelerate Bible translation. It started with pilot projects in 10 different languages linked to prayer partners and investors. Four years later, the model was working in 50 people groups and growing.

As Wycliffe Bible Translators realized that it would take 150 years at the current pace of translation to reach every people group, Wycliffe asked former CEO Bernie May to lead the initiative to build a model that would accelerate the pace of Bible translation and involve more national leadership. Today, The Seed Company is working with several hundred local translators who are leading the translation process in more than 400 Bible translation projects. These translators are responding to the local churches’ and ministries’ need to make Scripture available more quickly for church planting and discipleship. Find out more at www.theseedcompany.org

The Least of These

3:16 live-tsco-theleastofthese.mp4 (20.4Mb) - The Seed Company - sharing the need for Bible translation, and the opportunities for churches and church groups to bring God's word to the most marginalised language groups in the world.

What it's Like

In November 2010, the Lausanne Movement gathered for Cape Town 2010 - The Third Lausanne Congress on World Evangelisation (lausanne.org). A selection of videos were presented by Scripture In Mission, which can be found on the Lausanne site at http://conversation.lausanne.org/en/home/scripture-in-mission. The low resolution versions can be accessed below.

thumbnailHelping us Face our Greatest Challenges

5:40 Lausanne - Helping Us Face Our Greatest Challenges.mp4 (small 18.5Mb) (large from lausanne.org) - This video shows the trauma that so many people endure in our violent world. We then see how Scripture plays an essential role in healing and changing traumatised lives.

thumbnailFrom Orphans to Sons and Daughters

4:07 Lausanne - From Orphans to Sons and Daughters.mp4 (small 13.4Mb) (large from lausanne.org) - The value of the Bible in one’s own language is the theme - over 200 million people have no access to the Bible. Our call is to take the word of God to the world; hear stories of how His word impacts other people in different languages. Film and audio as well as the written word are discussed.

thumbnailFinding Hope in Broken World

5:33 Lausanne - Finding Hope In Broken World.mp4 (small 16.5Mb) (large from lausanne.org) - This video supports biblical literacy. It tells a story from Africa about surviving war and violence, and the impact of the word of God on someone who was injured in war-the emphasis on how the gospel brings reconciliation. A second story from Israel involves the church as the Israeli and Palestinian Bible societies tell their story. The exhortation is to present the Word in an engaging way that leads to love and reconciliation.
