Providential Planning
A language survey team recently decided to cancel
their research trip to a remote location in eastern Russia. Just two days after
making this decision, they learned that several people from the area they would
have surveyed were coming to St. Petersburg, so they were able to gather
information from them instead.
The first step in evaluating the need for a new translation project is to gather information about the language—is it being used by the younger generation, or is it dying out? Are the people extensively using a national or neighboring language?
People to do survey are needed for many locations around the world. Training is offered in several countries.
