Wycliffe UK seeks new Executive Director
Wycliffe UK are seeking a new Executive Director to take up appointment towards the end of 2007. The present Director, Geoff Knott, will have served 9 years by end February 2008. This is the maximum allowed under our regulations.
Wycliffe UK is one of the leading UK mission agencies and promotes and facilitates the worldwide task of Bible translation. Income in 2005-6 was £7.8M. It currently has around 500 members serving in many parts of the world, undertaking translation and Bible use projects in partnership with national Christians.
Wycliffe UK is a member organisation of Wycliffe Bible Translators International. Within this network over 6000 members from over 60 countries are involved in 71% of the translation projects going on today.
Its main offices are located on an attractive campus in the Chiltern Hills near High Wycombe, where there are conference and exhibition resources.
The person appointed must be able to demonstrate a track record of success in a senior leadership role in an international organisation.
Wycliffe UK has committed itself to play a key role in Vision 2025, the worldwide drive to start a translation project in all remaining languages without God's word by the year 2025. This will call for a continuing growth in resources, recruitment of new members and effective partnership with national Churches. The challenge will not be met without building awareness, prayer and financial support among all parts of the UK Christian Church.
The Executive Director is responsible to the Board for UK operations. These include mobilisation, Church and supporter relations, fundraising, personnel services, Centre services, Finance and IT. There are satellite offices in Scotland and Northern Ireland. The post calls for effective and positive working relationships with Field Directors and with Wycliffe International and other bodies. Regular travel overseas is a key part of the job.
Wycliffe is a faith-based mission and members are required to raise their own support. The Executive Director will similarly be asked to raise his or her own financial backing. Appointment will be for an initial three year term which may be extended.
He or she will be a mature Christian whose background may be in business, the professions or charity work. In-depth management experience of staff and financial control in a sizeable organisation is essential.
