WOW!

Window on Wycliffe 6 days of practical exploration.

15-21 February 2009.

What is the biblical basis for mission? Where does Bible translation fit into God's mission? What needs to happen for the Bible to go from being in a foreign language to impacting communities in their own language?

This week will give you an insight into firstly the role of Bible translation in God's mission, and then a look at what is involved in translating the Bible into a minority language.

Participant thinking

You'll get a taste of the diversity of language and culture that God has created, and an overview of the steps that are required to devise writing systems and coordinate literacy work.

You'll see some of the issues encountered when translating from one language to another completely unrelated language, and realise that translation work is fundamentally about partnership, between churches and individuals, nationals and expatriates, God and his people.

Participant playing game

After exploring what needs to be done in order for scriptures to be translated and lives changed, we'll then take time to see what role each of us can play in that.

You'll have opportunities to meet with members of the Bible translation team from around the world and to hear about their roles and experiences. You'll experience first-hand what it's like to work together in a cross-cultural team.

But above all we hope you'll catch a glimpse of how God is reaching out to his world, and want to join with him to see communities transformed for Christ.
