Experience God’s heart for Bible translation

Experience Wycliffe is for people aged 18–30 from across Europe looking to learn, grow and hear from God as they consider a role in Bible translation. We’ll study God’s desire for all people to know him and share some of the incredible ways God is accomplishing his plans through Bible translation.

What should I expect?

We are glad to confirm that Experience this year will take the form of an in-person camp held in the UK from 18–28 July 2021. We will be using a fully equipped centre on the England/Wales border near Chepstow, with plenty of indoor and outdoor space for activities or peace and quiet. This location is also right on the doorstep of some wonderful landscapes (including the Forest of Dean, Wye Valley and Black Mountains), and has the significant advantage that we can draw on a rich pool of Wycliffe practitioners based in this part of the UK.

Learning from the Book of Acts

On the camp we will begin each morning learning about the mission of God through the book of Acts. This time of fellowship will be followed by teaching sessions where we’ll open your eyes to the life-changing work of Bible translation. We’ll focus on different aspects of the work over the two weeks, to build a picture of what it takes to make God’s word truly accessible to everyone.

The afternoons will be free time with plenty of opportunity to explore the area, process what we’ve been learning together or relax in the sun with a good book! Then through the evening sessions you’ll hear personal stories and get to talk with a range of Wycliffe workers as they share how God has used them to bring God’s word to language communities around the world.

Part-retreat and part-holiday, there really is nothing quite like Experience and for many people it is a life-changing time. If you feel a prompting to take some time out to think through cross-cultural mission and God’s call on your life, we’d love to have you join us.

The Experience camp in the UK will cost £400 for full board and lodging; you will need to make your own way to the venue.

  • We anticipate in line with government guidance that the camp will be able to take place in person, but that some mitigation measures will be necessary. We will be in touch with participants about these measures ahead of time.
  • Experience Wycliffe in the UK will be open to participants from other European countries (on the same dates as originally envisaged for the Switzerland version of Experience), and we will be delighted to welcome anyone who can come depending on the Covid-19 situation by that time. It is likely that vaccination rates will be very high in the UK by July, so travel into the UK from other countries is likely to depend on the Covid situation in those countries. Please check your own government’s guidance for international travel.
